"Insist on yourself; never imitate. Your own gift you can present every moment with the cumulative force of a whole life’s cultivation; but of the adopted talent of another, you have only an extemporaneous, half possession. That which each can do best, none but his Maker can teach him."

  1. I had to read this twice, well more than twice! thank god there's google translate. This must be the best quote i've ever read.
Is this a book ? There's a very good secondhand bookstore in my place, so I will look out for this. And this weekend I was planning to visit a flea market in amsterdam (hopefully it isn't to cold, otherwise I have to cancel) maybe a find a copy.

  2. This is one of many wonderful quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson and this is one of his books, but a more updated and easier to understand one apparently. Check it out on Amazon. I have to say that I'm in love with the quote too. I keep re- reading it too. I also have to get the book.
